What is co.lab?

co.lab offers a unique workspace created to spark collaborative fusion among like-minded individuals. The word co.lab can be short for collaborate or perhaps even co-laboratory, where ideas synergize and brains can be set on fire (figuratively,of course). Inspiration is a hop, step, and jump away (literally this time).

What is coworking?

How does co.lab work, exactly? Do I just go there, or do I need to reserve a slot/space?

Coworking simple: come in from 9AM-6PM, Monday-Friday with your laptop/camera/ideas/energy/other materials that you need to get your work done. Don’t leave home without an open mind too.Select the package of your choice, make your payment and you’re all set to cowork!

The co.lab code of coworking ethics is not a written set of rules or regulations. If anything, we encourage our coworkers to respect each other and be considerate of others in a shared space.

People are more than welcome to drop by for a tour or contact us via our contact page.

co.lab is for you if:

  • You work from your home office, but would like an alternative workplace. Remember: working alone doesn’t have to mean being lonely.
  • You come from the “slasher generation.” Meaning, you introduce yourself by saying something like, “Hi, I’m a writer-slash-performer-slash-teacher-slash-mermaid-slash-scuba diver-slash-environmental advocate.”
  • You want to meet people from the same or different industry and scope of work.
  • You want a community-like atmosphere where support and encouragement are renewable sources.

What kind of people will I find in co.lab?

Coworkers range from all different industries: graphic design to gaming; realty to writing; modeling to event production; farming and so on. You’ll meet and work with freelance professionals, home office workers, startup businesses, creative, entrepreneurs, and graduate students.

What are some of your successful collaborations?

All partnerships born at co.lab have been interesting! During the Meeting of the Minds in March 2011, Manila’s top movers and shakers of society gathered in co.lab to listen to Filipino-American guest speaker Ruby Veridiano of the Glamour Baby Diaries. Ruby moderated a discussion on what change and progress in the country meant for them. The positivity cultivated during Meeting of the Minds was almost palpable. Eco warrior Anna Oposa and tourism advocate Brian Ong teamed up with changemaking congresswoman Aliah Dimaporo to file a bill to protect all species of sharks and rays in the Philippines.

Coworker Arriane Serafico facilitated the visit of Sen. TG Guingona to hold a dialogue with representatives from the Filipino creative industry and birthed the Design Council Bill and the Design Para Sa Lahat movement.

Meeting of the Minds has now spread to various cities in the world. Since Ruby’s return to Manila in September 2011, she has taken this discussion to De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University to hear from the country’s youth.

And this is just the warm-up.

What makes working in co.lab different from working in a cafe or studio?

As a physical space, co.lab is unique because there are no cubicles but instead, a variety of different areas which offer coworkers the freedom to work from a desk or a sofa, a communal table, or a lounge chair whatever is more conducive for their productivity. co.lab also houses artwork from the coworking community. Various paintings, posters and photos are displayed on the walls to get people’s creative juices flowing. We offer a number of snacks, local brewed coffee, a variety of teas and a selection of Malongo espresso!

We also hold activities like Jellies and the Spark Series to encourage a stronger community of collaborators.

What is a Jelly?

A Jelly is a monthly meet-up where co.lab opens its doors to the public for the love of coworking and collaborating. It allows people across different industries to experience coworking first-hand. You could come in anytime and bring your work. Being early also has its perks because some jellies have themes and activities. Also, don’t forget to bring your business cards because you don’t know who you’d meet.

What is the Spark Series?

It’s a series of inspirational and informative talks and workshops on different topics. The series provide an avenue for the speakers to give back to the community. Our past Spark Series include:

  • How To Be Awesome 101 by Sarah Meier-Albano
  • Point and Shoot Workshopby Paco Guerrero
  • Creativity Nation by Arianne Serafico of Wanderrgirl.com
  • Brand Me: Make yourself a Powerhouse Brand by Rone Valles Guerrero of Mothering Earthlings

Make sure you attend the next one you’ll never know when those sparks can turn into fireworks.
